If you’re dissatisfied with the appearance of your teeth, but are
reluctant to commit to braces,
Six Month Smiles may be the perfect solution for you. Six Month Smiles is a special orthodontic
treatment that enables you to enjoy straighter, better-looking teeth in
less than a year’s time. If you are interested in learning more
about Six Month Smiles from a dentist in the Austin, TX, area, read on
for a quick overview of the process.
Who is a good candidate for Six Month Smiles? Six Month Smiles is recommended
for patients who have teeth that are too widely spaced or too crowded
together, who have asymmetrical smiles, and who have teeth that have shifted
in place. Your dentist will examine your teeth and gums in order to determine
whether the procedure is a good fit for you.
How does Six Month Smiles work? In order to plan your treatment, X-rays
and impressions will be taken of your teeth. Using these as a guide, your
dentist will fit your mouth with tooth-colored wires and clear brackets.
They will be kept in place using a special adhesive material. After you
have been fitted, you will go back to your dentist’s office every
5-6 weeks to have your brackets adjusted. When your teeth have shifted
to an optimal position, your dentist will remove the brackets and wires.
The treatment requires an average of six months to work, but some patients
may require less or more time.
Is Six Month Smiles distracting or uncomfortable to undergo? You can continue
to brush and floss as usual while you are wearing your Six Month Smiles
brackets. However, try to avoid foods that may become stuck between your
brackets, such as caramel. Most patients find that their brackets are
not uncomfortable to wear; if you experience pain, contact your dentist at once.
